LEADERSHIP IN ACTION

A practical, actor-led workshop exploring how students lead themselves and others with confidence and clarity

Leadership is a fast-paced, practical workshop that explores what it means to lead — both individually and as part of a group.

Through a series of dynamic exercises, group challenges and reflective tasks, students explore how they communicate, collaborate and respond to pressure, while developing greater awareness of their own strengths and leadership style.

Drawing on techniques from performance training, the session focuses on self-reflection, communication and teamwork, giving students regular opportunities to practise, reflect and apply skills in real time. Students are encouraged to take initiative, work creatively with others and develop the confidence to contribute and lead in a range of situations.

Designed for secondary students, this workshop can be tailored for different year groups, abilities and school contexts.

It works particularly well for:

  • student leadership programmes and roles

  • prefect, ambassador or peer mentor training

  • PSHE and personal development

  • team-building and group cohesion

  • enrichment and character education

  • students developing confidence, initiative and responsibility

  • transition points and increased independence

WHo it’s FOR

Students leave the session with greater awareness of their own leadership style, and a set of practical techniques they can begin to apply when working with others, contributing ideas and taking initiative.

During the workshop, students:

  • explore different approaches to leadership, and how individuals contribute in different ways

  • develop awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth

  • practise communicating ideas clearly and confidently within a group

  • experience working collaboratively under pressure, adapting to changing situations

  • build confidence contributing, leading and supporting others

  • explore how body language and presence affect communication and influence

  • practise active listening and responding to others’ ideas

  • experiment with giving and receiving constructive feedback

  • reflect on group dynamics, including trust, roles and decision-making

  • develop strategies for managing nerves and self-doubt in leadership situations

WHAT STUDENTS TAKE AWAY

  • Students explore what leadership means, including different leadership styles and how personal strengths, habits and mindset influence how we lead.

  • Students develop practical techniques for expressing ideas clearly, using voice and body language to communicate with confidence and impact.

  • Through group challenges, students explore teamwork, trust and how different roles emerge within a group, particularly under pressure.

  • Students are encouraged to take initiative, think creatively and adapt their approach when faced with challenges or changing circumstances.

  • Students practise giving and receiving constructive feedback, and reflect on how their choices affect both their own performance and the wider group.

The content is adapted to suit the age and needs of the group, but typically includes:
