INTERVIEW READY

Helping students approach interviews with confidence, self-awareness and strong communication skills

Interview Ready is a fast-paced, supportive workshop that gives students practical experience of responding to interview questions and presenting themselves with clarity and confidence.

Through a mix of structured exercises, discussion and interview-based tasks, students explore how they communicate under pressure — developing greater awareness of their voice, body language and response style.

The session is highly interactive, with frequent opportunities to practise, reflect and apply techniques in real time, helping students build a toolkit they can begin to use in interviews and other formal speaking situations.

WHo it’s FOR

Designed for secondary students, this workshop can be tailored for different year groups, abilities and school contexts.

It works particularly well for:

  • sixth form and college interview preparation

  • university and destinations programmes

  • student leadership applications

  • scholarship or selective school interviews

  • careers education and employability skills

  • enrichment and personal development

  • confidence and wellbeing in high-stakes situations

WHAT STUDENTS TAKE AWAY

Students leave the session with greater confidence and a set of practical techniques they can begin to apply in interviews and other formal speaking situations.

During the workshop, students:

  • practise responding to interview-style questions in a structured and supportive environment

  • develop awareness of how they come across, including posture, eye contact and first impressions

  • explore how tone, pace and clarity affect spoken answers

  • experiment with structuring responses so ideas feel more focused and coherent

  • try out practical strategies for managing nerves under pressure

  • build confidence thinking on their feet, particularly when faced with unfamiliar questions

  • reflect on how to communicate strengths and experiences more clearly

  • identify personal speaking habits and areas they can begin to improve

  • apply techniques in short interview-style tasks, with guidance and feedback

  • leave with simple, repeatable exercises to support future interview preparation

WHAT WE COVER

The content is adapted to suit the age and needs of the group, but typically includes:

  • Students explore what interviewers may be looking for and how communication style, clarity and self-presentation can affect how they come across.

  • Students consider how posture, eye contact, facial expression and physical presence contribute to confident communication in an interview setting.

  • Using practical voice-based techniques, students explore pace, articulation, projection and tone, helping them communicate answers more clearly and confidently.

  • Students experiment with ways of shaping responses so they are more focused, relevant and coherent, particularly when answering open or unexpected questions.

  • The workshop includes practical strategies to help students stay grounded under pressure and respond more confidently when put on the spot.

  • Students take part in supported interview-style exercises, giving them opportunities to apply techniques in context and reflect on what helps them communicate effectively.
